Corte
Woven corte, or mayan skirt, indigo navy with white stripes and rows of flowers! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).
This simple corte measures 33″ wide and 49″ long (laid flat). Cortes are generally sewn together to make a tube, but this one is not. It is a full flat piece of fabric.
This corte is beautiful with its soft grey ikat design that is accented with stripes of pink and green. It has an accent row of flowers in yellow, pink and green with grapes in the middle that runs the length of the corte. These flowers a hand guided, machine embroidered.
This corte is in good used condition, and soft, with a few signs of wear including a very small hole and some minor wear on the embroidered flowers.
