Striking antique silk  huipil from Chichicastenango!  Fantastic texture and color! Very stunning woven huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and each of the four sides measures 4 1/2″ in length.

This two panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features traditional geomorphic mayan shapes throughout the bodice in super soft silk threads of varying shades of blues and greens. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun in purple and deep red. The background fabric is a silky soft fine cotton in a deep slate blue color.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with a few flaws, perhaps a few loose threads. Due to the age of this antique huipil, there is some variation and fading in the color of the bodice, but nothing to distract from the beauty of this vintage item.

Santa Maria de Jesús (luto)

Very stunning embroidered huipil, full of lifelike quetzales! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This elegant and striking huipil measures 28″ across the shoulders, and 28″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is somewhat round (more scallop-shaped) and measures 6″ in diameter. The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.
