419 San Juan Atitan-0315San Juan Atitán

Very striking man’s camisa/shirt with beautiful weaving and design! It is from San Juan Atitán in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. This colorful and ornate camisa measures 19″ across the shoulders, and 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges. The bodice measures 22″ across the chest. The neck opening measures approximately 23 1/2″, including the 5 1/2″ slit down the front. The sleeves measure 22″ in length.

This camisa is striking with woven accent designs that feature radiant suns and Mayan stars, with flowers added at the collar. Elegant multicolored thread trims the neck opening and sleeve openings and colorful quetzales run down the sides of this lovely man’s shirt. The background is red, purple, and blue striped cotton blend with very tiny silver accent stripes. The sleeves have tassels that are tucked back inside to create volume in the sleeves.

Please note that this item can be combined with the sombrero, tzute, faja, and capixaij (capishay) from San Juan Atitán that we have for sale to have a man’s outfit from the pueblo, just add white cotton pants and it is complete! Great photo of how they are generally worn here.

This camisa is in excellent condition, with a few signs of wear. This would be a great shirt for a boy, or as a stunning decoration piece! This is a very glorious textile!
