Faja

Unique hand-woven and hand-embroidered faja (belt). Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) or men’s pants in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 96″ long, with an additional 6+″ of tassel each end. It measures 3 1/2” wide. The stitched design runs approximately 40” of the total length.

This rustic and thicker faja is woven with a slate grey background color and a yellow stripe that runs the full length. It is accented with simple, hand embroidered designs in a variety of colors

Unique hand-woven and embroidered faja (belt) from the Chichicastenango region. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 90″ long, with an additional 4″ – 6″ of tassel on each end. It measures 1 3/4” wide. The woven flower and bird design runs approximately 40” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a charcoal and white background color and is accented with a fully hand embroidered design of flowers and birds in rich colors of purple and various others. The embroidery is thick and beautiful! The embroidery was done in threads that allowed the color to run and create a rich feeling in the textile.

This faja is in very good used condition with a few loose threads and wear on the tassels. Because of the threads used in the embroidery, some of the color in the design has bled and there are a few places on the white background that have taken some of the colored hues. A lovely vintage item!

Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 86″ long, with an additional 6″ of tassel on each end. It measures 2 3/8” wide. The woven flower and bird design runs approximately 37” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a brown background color with royal blue stripes along each edge and is accented with a fully hand woven design of flowers and birds on a mixed in with green leaves.

Lovely colorful faja/belt made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte/skirt in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 2.25″ wide, 85″ long, with an additional 4″ – 7″ of fringe on each end. The stitched bird design runs approximately 35” of the total length.

This faja is woven on a golden yellow background with a tiny black stripe running along each edge. There are eye catching colorful birds done with  free-hand machine embroidery. Each of these sweet birds is unique in color and design.

Lovely colorful, reversible faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 2.75″ wide, 90″ long, with an additional 8″ fringe on each end. The stitched flower designs runs approximately 35” along each end.

This faja is woven with a deep black background with a blue stripe along each edge. Along one end there are eye catching colorful flowers of red, blue, orange, purple and pink with green leaves done with  free-hand machine embroidery. Along the other end there are rounded flowers in burnt orange and yellow, also done with machine embroidery. There is a hint of metallic thread throughout the designs. The flowers stand out against the dark background.

This faja is woven in the classic multicolored geomorphic figures throughout the design on burgundy/red, black and white striped background. There are tassels on each end.

This faja is woven with a royal blue background color and is accented with a fully hand embroidered design along one end and machine embroidered along the other end allowing the wearer to change the design side to match their outfit. The flowers are a complimenting spectrum of colors and have been meticulously sewn.

Detailed smaller faja (belt) from San Antonio Aguas Calientes. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This unique faja measures 56″ long, not including the additional 4″ – 6″ of tassel/trim on each end. It also measures approximately 1.5” wide.

The stunning artwork shows birds and parrots amongst various flowers and fruits throughout the design on a light faded brown background with teal blue stripes along each edge. The weaving is done in the very fine and detailed San Antonio style where the pattern is identical on both sides, “doble cara”.

This faja is woven with a black background color and is accented with a added design stitched on top. The added woven fabric is in the ikat style of the cortes/skirts that the women wear with some lover silver metallic thread accents. This is a newer, more simply designed faja.

This faja is woven with a deep black background with a teal blue stripe along each edge. There are spectacular birds with green leaves done with  free-hand machine embroidery that run down one side of the faja. The birds are detailed and beautiful! The previous owner put her initials on the back ‘MA’.

This faja is woven in a stunning yellow/gold, royal blue, green, and red colors and is accented with woven figures of animals and mayan stars in the traditional style of San Juan Sacatepéquez. The woven geomorphic figure design runs most of the total length.
