Lovely orange and black faja (belt) from the area of Zunil, in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala.. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 82″ long, with an additional 3 1/2″ – 6″ fringe on each end. One fringe end is braided, the other is loose. It measures approximately 1 1/2” wide. The intricately woven design runs approximately 31” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a deep black background. There are eye catching designs woven into the background in red, orange, and yellow. A flower, bird, and face can be seen in the pattern. The other end of the faja is left plain as is the custom of the belts.

Unique hand-woven and hand-embroidered faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús (but of a generic design). Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 81″ long, with an additional 7″ of tassel on one end and 3″ on the other. It measures 2” wide. The stitched flower design runs approximately 47” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a black background color and is accented with a fully hand embroidered design. The flowers are a complimenting spectrum of colors and have been meticulously hand sewn.

This faja is woven in a rich burgundy color (not nearly as bright red as shown in the photos) and is accented with a colorfully woven geomorphic design with birds and deer hidden in the pattern. The fringe ends are accented with colorful ‘pompoms’.

Striking faja/sash made in the town of San Juan Atitán. Fajas are generally used as the belt to hold up the corte/skirt in the mayan woman’s traje or outfit. But in this case, this faja or sash is worn by the men of this town over their woolen capixaij (capishay) or coverall.  This daily use faja measures 102″ long, and 8 3/4” wide. The woven geomorphic figures measure approximately 4” wide on each end.

This faja is woven in stunning purple and red cotton threads with acrylic blend accent designs and delicate twisted tassels on each end.

This beautiful faja measures 134″ long, with an additional 2 1/2″ of tassel on each end. It also measures 8” wide. The colorfully geomorphic design runs approximately 27 1/2” in length.

This faja is woven in a rich chocolate brown color and is accented with a colorfully woven geomorphic design with birds and deer hidden in the pattern. There is some use of metallic threads in the designs. The fringe ends are accented with colorful ‘pompoms’.

Striking faja/sash made in the town of San Juan Atitán. Fajas are generally used as the belt to hold up the corte/skirt in the mayan woman’s traje or outfit. Lovely colorful faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 1 1/2″ wide, 90″ long, with an additional 6″ fringe on each end. The stitched flower design runs approximately 36” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a deep black background with a blue stripe along each edge. There are eye catching colorful flowers with green leaves done with  free-hand machine embroidery. The flowers stand out against the dark background.

This faja measures 2 3/8″ wide, by 88″ long, not including the approximately 4″ of tassel braid at the end. The design measures about 20″ on each end, with the middle section having no design.

This faja is accented with acrylic blend thread designs on a woven red cotton striped background fabric. The accents are in a variety of pastel hued colors including greens, pinks, purples, lemon yellows, etc. Very lovely to look at! This faja also has a matching corte (skirt) and huipil (blouse) that creates a complete traje (outfit).

Striking faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 92″ long not including the 5″ of tassels at each end. It also measures 2 3/4” wide. The woven geomorphic design runs approximately 40” of the total length down one side.

This faja is woven in the classic red, blue, green and purple color that is seen in the traditional huipiles from Santa Maria de Jesús, in the classic diamond pattern.  This style of fully woven faja is not seen too often as many have started wearing the less expensive machine embroidered fajas.

This faja measures 3 1/8″ wide, by 130″ long, with about 5″ of tassel braid at the end. The design measures about 45″ on one end and 42″ on the other, with the middle section having no woven accent design.

This faja is accented with cotton blend thread designs on a woven red cotton background fabric that has heather brown stripes. The accents are in a variety of pastel hued colors including greens, pinks, purples, lemon yellows, etc. Very lovely to look at! This faja also has a matching corte (skirt) and huipil (blouse) that creates a complete traje (outfit).

The colorfully geomorphic design runs approximately 27 1/2” on one end and 21″ on the other.

This faja is woven in a rich deep wine color and is accented with a colorfully woven geomorphic design with diamonds and feathered serpents hidden in the pattern. The fringe ends are accented with colorful ‘pompoms’. These very wide fajas are generally worn folded in half lengthwise, thus the two different side-by-side designs on one end, allowing the wearer to alternate visible designs.

Unique and bright red hand-woven faja/belt made in the town of Palín. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 98″ long, with an additional 5″ of tassel on one end and 8″ on the other. It also measures 4 3/4” wide. The colorfully woven zigzag design runs approximately 31” on one end and 33″ on the other end.

This faja is woven in a rich red color and is accented with a colorfully woven zigzag design representing the mountains and rivers that flow through the area. There is much use of cotton threads in this vintage faja with an tiny accent of gold metallic threads woven at one end on one side. This is a fairly thick textile, and stiff due to the heavy nature of the woven threads.

This faja is woven in delicate pastel colors with pinks, lavenders, greens and many other colors. The fringe ends are very intricately braided and knotted to create an elegant touch . This is a wonderful and wide faja that has the classic stripes of the Ixil area in Guatemala.
