875 San Juan la Laguna-4289San Juan la Laguna

BRAND NEW! This is a very unique item for Ixchel Textiles! We generally do not purchase any new textiles but due to the extreme difficulty in finding huipiles from this area we went directly to a weaving cooperative in San Juan la Laguna to find this special huipil. This is one of two that we brought back from the trip.

Striking huipil from San Juan la Laguna. The collar is accented with the classic design circling the neck opening that is representative in huipiles from the area. This two lienzo huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, 31″ across the chest, and 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is more or less round and measures approximately 7″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

The accent around the collar is a rainbow of colors hand embroidered in soft cotton thread that extends to the little squares below the neckline circle. The background fabric is a crisp woven cotton blend in red with wonderful white and colored stripes.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is brand new and has not been worn (except for photos).  This is a great opportunity to purchase a brand new huipil! A spectacular textile for display or wear!

It is fully woven. The colors are red, purple, with black accents. The background fabric is a medium weight white woven cotton blend with red stripes.

This huipil is in good used condition, with very little sign of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads and a couple of very faint stains. The sides of this huipil were previously taken in along the shoulders and it appears that there are about 5 or 6 small (0.5″ or less) cuts/pulls in the weaving where the stitching was removed along the sides. 854 San Mateo Ixtatan-2693San Mateo Ixtatán

Absolutely huge and stunning vintage huipil from San Mateo Ixtatán! This beautiful and rarely seen available huipil measures 46″ across the shoulders, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded) at the longest point. The neck opening is round and measures 6.75″ in diameter.

This huge huipil is breathtaking with its elaborate fully hand-embroidered design in brilliant colors of red, yellow, green, and blue sewn on a simple muslin background. This is a very large and very heavy huipil with the design shown on both inside and out. The design has the round ‘suns’ radiating from the collar. The collar is made from commercial fabric with added accents of various stitched on appliques. The lower edge of the huipil has been removed. This simple muslin fabric is usually the first to wear out.

Due to the colder climate of San Mateo Ixtatán huipiles from this area tend to be heavy and warm. These classic huipiles from San Mateo Ixtatán of this style are very difficult to come by.
