This is a very stunning  huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders, 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded).  The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2″ snap-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head (note: smaller fit over the head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic flower design throughout the body and shoulders. The background fabric is woven black cotton.

Crisp cotton smaller huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Clean, elegant style with great designs. This is a lovely huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 28 1/4″ across the shoulders
21 1/2″ – 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded) – side panels are a bit longer than the center panel.
The neck opening is round and measures 4 3/4″ in diameter with an additional 2 1/4″ snap-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head (very tight fit over adult head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This three panel huipil is striking with simple weaving that features colorful woven zigzags and diamonds. The collar is accented with the classic radiating sun in red and black that is traditional for the region. The background fabric is woven white cotton.

This huipil is in very good used condition for its age, with perhaps a few loose threads and a couple of very small and faint stains. The lower edges of the panels have a lumpy warp where the extra threads are woven back into the huipil (very common for huipiles from Chichicastenango). This is a beautiful vintage textile!

Amazing corte or skirt from the Chichicastenango. This is a woven corte, or mayan skirt is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt). This elegant corte measures 29″ wide and 50″ long (doubled). This corte has the opening at the long sides as shown in the picture of the corte hanging. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 29″ by 100″ laid out flat.

This incredible corte has elaborately detailed ikat woven stripes throughout that are done in colorful patterns of deer, corn plants, two-headed eagles and more! Look closely! There is very lovely hand embroidery where the seams are joined. The embroidery features wonderful colors and designs of flowers, peacocks and more. The indigo blue stripes alternate with the ikat stripes on this medium weight fabric.

The stitching where the panels are joined are loose in a couple of places. The neck opening had a snap closure, but at some point one side of the snap was replaced with a string tie. This is a beautiful vintage textile!

This corte has the opening at the long sides as shown in the picture of the corte hanging. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 25 1/2″ by 116″ laid out flat.

This corte has traditional and colorful ikat woven stripes throughout, with lovely pastel-colored hand embroidery where the seams are joined. The denim blue stripes alternate with soft lavender stripes accented with silver metallic thread. The ikat pattern is done in a variety of colors. This is a very beautiful and feminine corte.

This huipil is in fair used condition with several flaws. The is some wear on the woven design section where some threads are missing. Some of the stitching that joins the panels has come loose. The attachment snap at the neck is missing, thus a yarn closure has been made by its previous owner. There is a small amount of wear around the collar. The lower edges of the panels have a loose warp where the extra threads are woven back into the huipil (very common for huipiles from Chichicastenango). This loose warp has pulled very loose and can be seen in the photos. Still a very lovely piece, despite its few flaws.
