Large and beautiful vintage huipil from the town of Comitancillo, located in the San Marcos region of Guatemala. This elegant huipil measures 33 1/2″ across the shoulders, 30″ from the neckline to the bottom edges. The neck opening is more or less round and measures 5 3/4″ in diameter with an additional 2″ button closed slit to aid in pulling over the head. The sides have been stitched closed to create armholes. This huipil has been ‘gathered’ with a simple stitch running from one bottom edge to the other, over the shoulders, to make this blouse narrower. If removed (very easily done) it would add 1-2″ across the width of the huipil.
This crisp, classic huipil is simple with its solid red background and accenting blue and white stripes that cross the textile horizontally. This huipil is made from two woven panels, joined in the center of the garment. This vintage textile is soft and flowing with its all cotton threads. The inside of the collar is trimmed with a plain muslin fabric to add stability, and the head opening slit is closed with an inside hidden button.

This very vintage huipil is in very good used condition, with little visible sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads, very slight fading of the deep color, and some discoloration of the muslin inside the collar area. A spectacular piece of art that can either be worn or displayed!
