Very unique and hard to find huipil in excellent condition! This huipil is from the area of Concepción Chiquirichapa. This is a very unique huipil full of color. This huipil measures 34” across the shoulders, and 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5 3/4” in diameter with an additional 2″ slit that closes with fabric ties. The sides are not stitched closed, so this huipil can be opened fully for display or easily stitched closed for wear.
This huipil is beautiful with its rainbow of colors on a deep red cotton background. The design features the traditional animal motifs found in the huipiles of this region, including large, elegant birds interspersed in the milpa (corn field) with many other smaller figures, creating a spectacular design. There is so much stunning detail! There is much use of pure cotton thread in this huipil. The background is medium to heavy weight cotton. The collar is trimmed in like new black velvet with a lovely hand-embroidered collar ring. On one side of the huipil, where the two panels join, there is an elegant randa stitching the two sections together.
Additional photos can be found here.
This huipil is in excellent used condition, with very little sign of wear. There are perhaps a couple of loose threads. This is a beautiful and unique piece of art that will not disappoint!
