Very detailed smaller woven vintage huipil from the village of Nebaj. This lovely huipil measures 26″ across the shoulders, 26″ across the chest, and 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5.25″ in diameter with an additional 2″ snap-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head (snug fit over adult head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This huipil features extensive and elaborate weaving of geomorphic figures including various birds, deer, and people that are representative for the area of Nebaj. The colors are a variety of greens, burgundy, and blues. The background is white acrylic blend.

Elegant cinta/hair wrap from the village of Nebaj. Women wear this style of cinta in their hair as part of their outfit. This colorful cinta measures 115″ in total length and 4″ – 4.5″ in width. The tassels at each end measure 7″ each. The more detailed weaving decorations run 18″ – 20.5″ at each end.

This cinta is finely woven with wonderful colors of green with accents of gold, white blue, and purple, representing the mountains and rivers of Guatemala running the full length of the cinta. At each end there are sections with more detailed weaving containing geomorphic figures similar to those found in huipiles from this same region. The tassels are a wonderful mix of the colors found in the cinta, with solid center colors of red, blue, yellow, pink, and turquoise.

This cinta is in very good used condition with almost no sign of wear except for slight creasing down the length of the cinta, and perhaps a few loose threads. This is a wonderful textile for use or display!

Elegant faja or woman’s belt made in the town of Nebaj. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 2.5″ wide, 106″ long, with an additional 8.5″ of woven/knotted tassel on each end. The colorfully geomorphic design runs approximately 37” on one end.

This faja is woven in the classic multicolored geomorphic figures throughout the design on burgundy/red, black and white striped background. There are tassels on each end.

This classic Nebaj shawl is woven with the traditional stripes in many colors including the predominant green, deep blue, and cranberry. The sides have had the stitching removed so that the huipil can open fully but can easily be stitched to create armholes if desired.

This huipil features extensive and elaborate weaving of geomorphic figures including various birds, deer, people, and horses that are representative for the area of Nebaj. Very beautiful woven and embroidered early style huipil from the village of Nebaj. This spectacular huipil measures 37″ across the shoulders, and 20″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures approximately 6″ in diameter (comfortable fit over avg adult head). The sides have been stitched to create arm holes.

This huipil features elaborate machine embroidery of a crane type bird amongst leaves that is representative for the area of Nebaj. The sleeves are also machine embroidered with a lovely pair of birds over each shoulder. This older style huipil is not often seen. The very soft and drapey background fabric is a unique color scheme of the Nebaj region with stripes of aqua-blue, purple, black, and yellow.

This lovely textile measures 35″ in width and 72″ in length, not including the additional 8″ fringe on each end. It is made from two panels woven on a backstrap loom and joined with simple stitching down the middle.

This classic Nebaj shawl is woven with the traditional stripes in various colors with the predominant green, black, and white. The delicate fringe creates a very elegant touch to the ends. The decorative white over-stitching of geomorphic figures, representative for the area of Nebaj, was added after the panels were joined and runs the entire width of the rebozo. This very large shawl is very striking and elegant.

The neck opening is diamond shaped and measures approximately 4 1/2″ along each of the four sides (comfortable fit over avg adult head). The sides have been stitched to create arm holes.

This huipil features extensive and elaborate hand embroidery of large birds strolling through grass and flowers that is representative for the area of Nebaj. This older style huipil is not often seen as all the detail in the hand embroidery is very labor intensive. The neckline and upper part of the randa are decorated with colorful hand embroidered water jugs. The neckline and sleeve opening are trimmed in cranberry colored crochet accents. The very soft and drapey background fabric is the traditional color scheme of the Nebaj region with stripes of green, purple, blue, and yellow. The hand embroidery design is very complimentary to the rebozo/perraje from Nebaj shown on this page.

Elegant tzute/perraje or utility cloth made in the town of Nebaj. Tzutes are generally used by both men and woman in a variety of manners. Tzutes are used for many tasks including carrying items, covering the shoulders when cold, and folding a placing on the head to keep the sun off or when entering church.  This textile, for its size, can be used either as a tzute or as a perraje (shawl). This textile measures 22″ – 24″ wide (width is not consistent the entire length) by 44″ long with 6 1/2″ of fringe at each end.

This textile is woven in the classic green with purple, burgundy and white striped threads with fantastic geomorphic figures and people throughout and delicate soft tassels on each end. This tzute tells a wonderful story with figures of men, birds, corn plants, horses and others on a single woven panel.
