San Juan Sacatepéquez
Vintage tzute with fantastic colors from San Juan Sacatepéquez. This antique weaving is large and measures 50” by 53”. It is woven in two panels, and is joined by a hand stitched randa (seam) sewn in colors of orange, green, blue, and burgundy. This back-strap woven piece was probably used for a variety of purposes by its mayan owner.
The predominant color of this tzute is a soft purple, accented with red and yellow as is common for the region of San Juan Sacatepéquez. This vintage piece incorporates the use of natural plant fibers, including cotton and ixcaco.
This tzute is in good used condition for its age. There is some slight wear in the form of a few loose threads in the weaving. This tzute has two small holes from wear. One hole is approximately ½” square, and the other is approximately ¼” square. There a few very faint stains and minor fading of the colors.

San Juan Sacatepéquez
Very interesting 25+ year old huipil in great condition. This 1980′s-1990′s huipil is from the town of San Juan Sacatepéquez. This lovely huipil measures 29 ” across the shoulders, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and if looked at as a square, each side measures 5″ in length.
This huipil is beautiful with its deep colors and hand weaving that features the traditional animal motifs found in the huipiles of San Juan Sacatepéquez, but in this old style huipil the figures are ‘hidden’ in the super thick weaving. The colors are deep yellow-gold, blue, and red stripes with accents of burgundy, purple, and turquoise. The neckline and sleeves are accented with black crochet trim, accented with simple machine embroidered flower accents. Due to the thickness of the weaving, this huipil is fairly heavy.
This huipil is in excellent used condition, especially for its age, with very little sign of wear.

San Juan Sacatepequez Tzute
Vintage Tzute from the San Juan Sacatepéquez region of Guatemala. This textile measures 21″ wide, and 24″ long, including the fringe. It is made of a single panel with fringe at two ends.
This small tzute is woven with stylized traditional mayan motifs throughout the piece in a variety of colors. The colors are mostly reds, purples, greens, and greys woven on a cotton background. The background is red/pink cotton with stripes in slate grey and lavender. The weaving is very interesting and can only be seen on the top of the tzute.
This item is in used condition, with some signs of usage. The colors have faded slightly, and there are a few very faint stains and some wear in the weaving that does not detract from this true mayan work of art.
