San Lucas Tolimán

Santo huipil from the San Lucas Tolimán region of Guatemala. This small huipil measures 16″ across the shoulders, and 14″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter.

This santo huipil is hand embroidered with traditional stylized animal motifs as well as rosettes and zigzag patterns throughout the body, with accents of multi-colored stripes. The colors of the figures are beautiful in shades of burgundy, blue, purple, red, green, and pink on a soft cotton background. The medium weight background is white cotton hemmed at the bottom.

This huipil is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear. The only flaw that could be found in this huipil is that a small section of thread at the shoulders has lost some of its color. The color has bled a small amount into the white background, but not in the main panel, only in the two small sections at the sides.
