Very unique huipil in excellent condition. This rarely seen huipil is from the town of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan. This stunning huipil measures 30” across the shoulders, and 27 – 30″″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The front and back panels are different lengths. The collar is an opening between the panels in both front and back and measures 11″ in length. The sides have had the stitching removed, so this huipil opens completely. The sides can easily be stitched closed to create arm holes for wearing.
This spectacular huipil is colorful with its mayan warrior/soldier figures and birds adorning the bodice on both sides. The colors are a rainbow of hues. There is much use of all cotton thread in this huipil. Where the two panels join in the center, there is a hand-embroidered randa with elegant water jugs, each in a different color. The background fabric is a super soft indigo-blue woven cotton with deep red stripes. Huipiles from this region are not seen available for sale very often;11 we have been fortunate to have two in our collection. This is a very special textile!

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with very little sign of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads. A very rare find that would be stunning for wear or display!
