Santa Maria de Jesús

Very stunning embroidered huipil, full of beautiful birds in a colorful garden! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This elegant and striking huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, 26″ across the chest, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6 1/4″ in diameter. The sides are stitched to create armholes.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliantly colored embroidery that features birds, flowers, and grapes on each side of the huipil in a flower garden. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, blues, purples and more! The background is a black commercial fabric. The embroidery is all machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! The neckline and sleeves are accented with black crochet trim. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.

Santa Maria de Jesús

Stunning, much older tzute from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This is a lovely detailed tzute that measures 40″ wide and 41″ long. Tzutes are generally used by both men and woman in a variety of manners. They are used for many tasks including carrying items, covering the shoulders when cold, and folding and placing on the head to keep the sun off or when entering a church.

This vintage tzute is beautiful with its bright colors and hand weaving that feature the traditional animal motifs of Santa Maria de Jesús in a variety of colors. The thread used to weave this tzute are mostly cotton and cotton blends. Where the two lienzos join, it has a decorative hand stitching that runs the full length of the tzute, creating the illusion of one large square cloth. The upper and lower edges have hand sewn blanket stitch. The background fabric is woven red cotton with blue, green, and purple stripes.

This tzute is in good used condition for its vintage age, with a few small areas where the fabric has worn thin and a couple of very faint stains. This is an exquisite textile!

Unique tzute from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This large and beautiful tzute measures 38″ wide, and 39″ long. Tzutes are generally used by both men and woman in a variety of manners. They are used for many tasks including carrying items, covering the shoulders when cold, and folding and placing on the head to keep the sun off or when entering a church.

This tzute is unique and beautiful with its deep dark colors and hand weaving that feature the traditional animal motifs of Santa Maria de Jesús. The colors are blue, green, purple and white on a black background. The thread used to weave this tzute is mostly acrylic and cotton. The randa seam joining the two panels is done in simple hand stitching in a variety of colors.

Beautiful and super soft huipil from Santa Maria de Jesús. This striking and different huipil measures 27″ across the shoulders, 22″ across the chest*, 20″ – 21 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The panels vary a bit in length. The neck opening is square and measures 6 1/2″ along each of the four sides. The sides are stitched to create armholes. *The sides have been taken in and if the stitching was removed would add approximately 2″ across the chest.

This striking huipil is lovely with its predominately dark pink with green accent diamond design woven with arti-seda and cotton thread giving it an wonderful feel. The design is woven on a medium to heavy super soft cotton blend background in a rich dark pink. This is a unique variation on the classic huipil design from Santa Maria de Jesús.

Unique hand-woven faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús in a design style of San Antonio Aguas Calientes. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 86″ long, with an additional 6″ of tassel on each end. It measures 2 3/8” wide. The woven flower and bird design runs approximately 37” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a brown background color with royal blue stripes along each edge and is accented with a fully hand woven design of flowers and birds on a mixed in with green leaves.

Lovely colorful faja/belt made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte/skirt in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 2.25″ wide, 85″ long, with an additional 4″ – 7″ of fringe on each end. The stitched bird design runs approximately 35” of the total length.

This faja is woven on a golden yellow background with a tiny black stripe running along each edge. There are eye catching colorful birds done with  free-hand machine embroidery. Each of these sweet birds is unique in color and design.

Lovely colorful, reversible faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 2.75″ wide, 90″ long, with an additional 8″ fringe on each end. The stitched flower designs runs approximately 35” along each end.

This faja is woven with a deep black background with a blue stripe along each edge. Along one end there are eye catching colorful flowers of red, blue, orange, purple and pink with green leaves done with  free-hand machine embroidery. Along the other end there are rounded flowers in burnt orange and yellow, also done with machine embroidery. There is a hint of metallic thread throughout the designs. The flowers stand out against the dark background.

This stunning huipil measures 33.5” across the shoulders, 28″ across the chest*, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 5.75″by 5.75″. The sides have been stitched to create armholes. *The sides of this huipil have been taken in substantially along the sides (3″+ on each side). If the stitching was removed it would make this huipil much larger.

This huipil is in the ceremonial Santa Maria style and is beautiful with its crisp colors and hand weaving that features traditional two headed eagles, feathered serpents, birds, as well as classic mayan stars that run across the shoulders. It is fully woven. The colors are red and green, with accents in purple and pink. The background fabric is a medium weight white woven cotton blend with red stripes.

Absolutely spectacular ceremonial style huipil in stunning red and black. This vintage huipil is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This stunning huipil measures 34.5” across the shoulders, 34″ across the chest, and 38″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and measures 5.5″ along each of the four sides with an additional 2″ slit. The sides have had the stitching removed so that the huipil opens completely. It is fairly easy to restitch the sides  to create armholes.

This rarely seen huipil is in the ceremonial Santa Maria style and is long and beautiful with its detailed geomorphic figures throughout. Double-headed eagles, feathered serpents, and birds can be seen in the design. It is fully woven. The color is mostly red with a rainbow of accent colors in cotton threads. The background fabric is a medium weight woven black cotton. The neck opening appears to have been retrimmed with a royal blue acrylic thread.

This stunning huipil measures 29” across the shoulders, 29.5″ across the chest, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is a generous 7.5″ x 8.5″. The sides have had the stitching removed so that the huipil opens completely. It is fairly easy to restitch the sides  to create armholes.

This huipil is in the ceremonial Santa Maria style and is beautiful with its crisp colors and hand weaving that features traditional artiseda woven diamonds across the chest and shoulders. It is fully woven. The colors are red, purple, with black accents. The background fabric is a medium weight white woven cotton blend with red stripes.

This stunning huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, 27.5″ across the chest,  and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and measures 4.5″ along each of the four sides (smaller). The sides are stitched to create armholes.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliant colored embroidery that features two quetzales (national bird of Guatemala) on each side in a garden full of flowers and rabbits. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, pinks, blues, purples and more! The embroidery is all machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! The head and sleeve openings are trimmed in raspberry colored velveteen. The background is a black commercial fabric. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.

Striking corte/skirt made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).

This corte measures 43″ wide and 50″ long (doubled). This corte has the opening at the sides as shown in the picture of the corte hanging. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 43″ by 100″ laid out flat.

This corte is beautiful with its classic crisp indigo-blue design with white stripes. The accent stitching at the randa, or where the panels join, is hand-guided machine embroidered accents. The fabric is of a medium weight.

This beautiful faja measures 1.5″ wide, 94″ long, with an additional 8″ fringe on each end. The stitched flower design runs approximately 35” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a deep black background with a teal blue stripe along each edge. There are spectacular birds with green leaves done with  free-hand machine embroidery that run down one side of the faja. The birds are detailed and beautiful! The previous owner put her initials on the back ‘MA’.
