Beautifully elegant tzute or utility cloth/shawl made in the town of Sololá. Tzutes are generally used by both men and woman in a variety of manners. They are used for many tasks including carrying items, covering the shoulders when cold, and folding and placing on the head to keep the sun off or when entering church.  This tzute measures 42″ wide by 40″ long.

This tzute is woven in the classic burgundy rich, multi-colored ikat striped threads with sweet quetzales and corn plants running down the length. The tzute is made of four woven panels and in the center is a hand embroidered decorative randa of various colors and metallic thread accents. There is some use of metallic thread throughout. This tzute is colorful and rich with color. This would make a spectacular shawl!

Vintage Huipil from the department of Sololá. This huipil measures 32.5″ across the shoulders, 27.5″ across the chest*, and 24″ from the shoulders to the bottom edge. The neck opening is round and measures approximately 6.5″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched to create armholes. *The sides of this huipil have been taken in approximately 2″ on each side. If this stitching was removed, it would make the huipil larger.

This huipil is woven in the traditional style of Sololá with a rainbow of colors.  There are traditional ikat style woven stripes throughout the bodice with accents in the upper portion. They are hand-guided, machine done embroidered figures. There is a predominantly black and brown cotton blend background with a variety of colors throughout the bodice.

This vintage huipil is in great used condition with little sign of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads. One one side where the center panels join there is a section of about 6″ where the stitching has been removed. This is easily restitched, and if asked we would be glad to restitch before shipping. A striking huipil!

Striking blousa huipil from the department of Sololá. Traditional ikat style woven stripes throughout the bodice with accent weaving across the shoulders. Simple open collar. This blouse-style is common for the Sololá area with added sleeves and a longer hem. This huipil measures 17″ across the shoulders (not including the length of the sleeves), 24″ across lower section, 22″ across chest, 26″ from the shoulders to the bottom hem, and the neck opening is a 7″ slit in the front. The sleeves each measure 8″ in length.

This huipil is woven in the traditional style of Sololá with a rainbow of colors. There is a predominantly black and brown cotton background with a variety of colors throughout the bodice. There are also woven figures throughout the upper section accenting the blousa. The shoulders are decorated with beautifully colored mayan stars. There is hand-guided, machine done embroidery accents of flowers. The sleeve ends are unfinished, but have been folded in the photo to show how they are normally worn.

Elegant and colorful corte/skirt from the department of Sololá. This woven corte, or mayan skirt is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt). This elegant corte measures 36″ wide and 46″ long (doubled). This corte has the opening at the long sides as shown in the picture of the corte hanging. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 36″ by 92″ laid out flat.

This corte has traditional and colorful ikat woven stripes throughout, with accent hand embroidery where the seams are joined. The ikat design alternates with a deep blue cotton. There is some use of metallic thread on the rows. The randa is wonderful hand embroidery in a abundance of colors.

The ikat design is very detailed and has bird and corn plant figures in a variety of colors. There is some use of metallic thread on the rows. The decoration along the lower edge has beautiful flowers and a small decorative stitching. The decoration along the upper edge is a small decorative stitching with tiny corn plant accents.

Vintage Huipil from the department of Sololá. Traditional ikat style woven stripes throughout the bodice with accent weaving in the upper portion. Simple oval collar. The sides have had the stitching removed, but can easily be restitched to make sleeves. This huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, 23″ from the shoulders to the bottom hem, and the neck opening is oval and measures approximately 6 1/2″ by 4 1/2″ with a small slit of 1″ to expand the opening a bit.

This vintage huipil is in good used condition. The weaving has a small amount of wear and there is some wear on the hand stitched trim around the collar.

Vintage blousa huipil from the department of Sololá. Traditional ikat style woven stripes throughout the bodice with accent weaving across the shoulders and in the lower trim. Simple open collar. This blouse-style is common for the Sololá area with added sleeves and a longer hem. This huipil measures 20″ across the shoulders (not including the length of the sleeves), 29″ from the shoulders to the bottom hem, and the neck opening is a long slit and measures approximately 12″ in length. The sleeve each measure 12″ in length.

This vintage huipil is in good used condition. The weaving has a small amount of wear and there is some wear on the trim areas around the collar and on the lower part.
