This cinta is finely hand woven with geometric mayan figures of zigzags and diamonds that represent the rivers and mountains that run the full length of the cinta. The colors are a wonderful blends of bright pinks with accents in light pink and pale blue.

Elaborately woven corte, or mayan skirt, beautiful rose color! It is from the town of Zuníl. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).

This wonderful and striking corte measures 49″ long and 47″ wide from side to side as shown in the photo. Cortes are sewn together to make a tube. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 47″ by 98″ laid out flat. The background is black cotton woven fabric. The woven section contains classic mayan designs  that are symbolic of the Zuníl region. The colors are various shades of red from pale pink to deep magenta with accents of white. There is a simple machine stitched randa where the seams join.

The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt). This corte measures 45 1/2″ wide and 50 1/2″ long (doubled). This corte has the opening at the long sides as shown in the picture of the corte hanging. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 45 1/2″ by 101″ laid out flat.

This is a wonderful and striking corte. This corte is absolutely beautiful with decorations that feature colored mayan designs throughout. It is woven in a rainbow of colors mostly done in lustrina threads! The background is black cotton woven fabric. The randa, or area joining the fabric is simple stitching, so not to detract from the ornate design. The center embroidery runs the full length of the corte. This corte is fairly thick and very heavy ~ more than 4 1/2 pounds!  The background is black cotton woven fabric. The embroidered color blocks are machine done free-hand, and are truly an art form. Just amazing!

Different, brown hued huipil with pheasant birds! This huipil is from Zunil, in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala. This unique huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, 28″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6″ in diameter.

This larger huipil is unique with its rust and brown colored embroidery of feathery pheasant birds around the collar and over the sleeves.

This huipil is in good condition, with a few signs of wear, primarily wear in the threads around the collar and on the sleeves.
