Nahualá

Beautiful tzute from the town of Nahualá. This spectacular woven tzute measures 31 1/2″ wide, and 34″ long, composed of two panels joined in the middle. The tassels at each corner measure 12″ in length and are deep burgundy in color.

This tzute is striking with classic hand woven geomorphic animal figures throughout the textile all in predominately red hues. There is a rainbow of soft hued accent colors throughout the tzute. The background is woven cotton that has taken on a pink hue due to the even bleeding of the red color onto the background fabric, which is a desirable trait in the textiles of this region. The technique is to intentionally let the color of the threads run onto the base fabric. It is said that this dates back to the use of expensive silk threads on the huipiles, which would lose some of the color and run, causing this stunning effect. Where the two panels join, there is a lovely hand-embroidered randa that extends the full length of the textile. This randa is stitched in silken and lustina threads, similar to that used in the woven design of the tzute. This is a wonderful example of a tzute from Nahualá.

This tzute is beautiful with its deep colors and hand weaving that feature the traditional animal motifs of Santa Maria de Jesús. The colors are  blue, green, purple and pink with yellow accents throughout. The thread used to weave this tzute are mostly acrylic and lustrina. Where the two lienzos join, it is a simple invisible hand stitching that runs the full length of the tzute, creating the illusion of one large square cloth. The edges have a simple hem. The background fabric is woven red cotton.

Beautiful tzute from the town of Chichicastenango. This spectacular woven tzute measures 32 1/2″ wide, and 31″ long, composed of two panels joined in the middle.

This tzute is striking with classic hand woven animal figures. The tzute features a variety of the classic animal figures including double headed eagles, turkeys, horses, and numerous birds all in predominately red hues. There is a rainbow of accent colors throughout the tzute. The background is predominately white woven cotton with red, purple, and green accent stripes. Where the two panels join, there is a lovely hand-embroidered randa symbolic of the feathered serpent that extends the full length of the textile. This randa is stitched in a variety of threads including some wool for the dark brown sections. This is a wonderful example of a tzute from Chichicastenango.
