Very lovely! Woven corte, or mayan skirt, indigo navy with white stripes and rows of flowers! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).
This elegant corte measures 42″ wide and 72″ long (laid flat). Cortes are generally sewn together to make a tube, but this one is not. It is a full flat piece of fabric.
This corte is beautiful with its accented design that is common for the Santa Maria de Jesús region. It has a seam, or randa, of pansy style flowers in deep pink, purple, and blue that runs the length of the corte and one that runs the width.
This corte is in very good used condition, and very soft, with very little sign of wear. Perhaps very slight fading in a small area.
