855 Corte-3087Corte

Woven corte, or mayan skirt, in rich red colors with lovely ikat design! The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body, folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).

This bright red corte measures 36″ wide and 141″ long (laid flat). Cortes are generally sewn together to make a tube for wearing. This corte is beautiful with its rich red colors and stripes. This medium weight corte is woven on a foot loom of a cotton blend.

Additional photos can be found here.

Fabric from cortes can be used in a variety of ways besides just for wearing, such as table covers, bed covers, curtains, throw pillows, clothing, etc. due to the heavier and more durable nature of the weaving.

This corte is in good used condition, with some sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. A lovely textile!
