849 Corte-2851Santa Maria de Jesús

Striking corte/skirt made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt). This corte measures 43 1/2″ wide and 75″ long.

This corte is beautiful with its classic crisp navy blue design with white stripes. The accent stitching at the randa, or where the panels join, is hand-guided machine embroidered flowers with sweet little white birds accenting. The fabric is of a medium weight and has a denim feel to it.

Additional photos can be found here.

This corte is in very good used condition, with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads.
