850 Corte Santa Maria de Jesus-2861Santa Maria de Jesús

Striking corte/skirt made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt). This corte measures 41.5″ wide and 76″ long laid out flat.

This corte is beautiful with its classic crisp navy blue design with light blue stripes. The accent stitching at the randa, or where the panels join, is a hand-guided machine embroidered design that matches the classic designs in the huipiles of the region. The fabric is of a medium weight and has a denim feel to it.

This corte is in very good used condition, with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. A stunning work of art!
