589 Corte Santiago Chimaltenango-0113Santiago Chimaltenango

Striking woven corte from the area of Santiago Chimaltenango in the department of Huehuetenango. This woven corte, or mayan skirt is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).

This corte is beautiful with its simple design and colorful dashes and circles that compliment the huipiles from the Santiago Chimaltenango region. The mayan star designs are done in a wonderful variety of colors on the black background fabric. The corte is made of a cotton blend with cotton woven accents. Fabric from cortes can be used in a variety of ways, such as table covers, bed covers, curtains, throw pillows, clothing, etc.

Additional photos can be found here.

This corte is in great used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads.
