Zuníl

Hand embroidered woven corte, or mayan skirt, full of dogs and flower vases! It is from the town of Zuníl. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).

This wonderful and striking corte measures 46″ long (from top to bottom as shown in photo) and 47″ wide (doubled) from side to side as shown in the photo. Cortes are sewn together to make a tube. This corte has the opening at the top and bottom as shown in the photo. If the stitching joining the sides of the tube were removed, this fabric would measure approximately 46″ by 94″ laid out flat. The embroidered roses run the full length of the 94″. This corte is fairly thick and heavy, it weighs 2 1/2 pounds.

This corte is absolutely beautiful with designs that feature brilliantly colored dogs and vases with flowers. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, pinks, blues, purples, oranges, yellows and more! The backgroud is black cotton woven fabric. The embroidered roses are machine done free-hand, and are truly an art form. Just amazing!

This corte is in great used condition, with perhaps a few loose threads, but no signs of wear.
