510 Faja Chajul-0189Chajul

Beautiful elegant faja/belt from the region of Chajul. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 127″ long, with an additional 2 1/2″ of tassel on each end. It also measures 7 1/2” wide. The colorfully geomorphic design runs approximately 27 1/2” on one end and 21″ on the other.

This faja is woven in a rich deep wine color and is accented with a colorfully woven geomorphic design with diamonds and feathered serpents hidden in the pattern. The fringe ends are accented with colorful ‘pompoms’. These very wide fajas are generally worn folded in half lengthwise, thus the two different side-by-side designs on one end, allowing the wearer to alternate visible designs.

Additional photos can be found here.

This faja is in good used condition with a small amount of wear, perhaps a few loose threads at the tassel ends and some creasing along the length. There is some very faint staining on the design section. A stunning textile for display or use!
