Unique hand-woven and embroidered faja (belt) from the Chichicastenango region. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 90″ long, with an additional 4″ – 6″ of tassel on each end. It measures 1 3/4” wide. The woven flower and bird design runs approximately 40” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a charcoal and white background color and is accented with a fully hand embroidered design of flowers and birds in rich colors of purple and various others. The embroidery is thick and beautiful! The embroidery was done in threads that allowed the color to run and create a rich feeling in the textile.

This faja is in very good used condition with a few loose threads and wear on the tassels. Because of the threads used in the embroidery, some of the color in the design has bled and there are a few places on the white background that have taken some of the colored hues. A lovely vintage item!
