507 Faja San Juan Cotzal-0132San Juan Cotzal

Beautiful elegant faja/belt from the region of San Juan Cotzal. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 114″ long, with an additional 4″ of tassel on each end. It also measures 12 1/2” wide.

This faja is woven in delicate pastel colors with pinks, lavenders, greens and many other colors. The fringe ends are very intricately braided and knotted to create an elegant touch . This is a wonderful and wide faja that has the classic stripes of the Ixil area in Guatemala.

Additional photos can be found here.

This faja is in excellent used condition with very little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads at the tassel ends. There are a few minor flaws due to weaving, but nothing due to wear or use. This lovely textile would be perfect for display or wear as a shawl or belt!
