799 Faja-2364Santa Maria de Jesús

Lovely bird-filled faja (belt) made in the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. Fajas are used as the belt to hold up the corte (skirt) in the mayan traje or outfit. This beautiful faja measures 1.5″ wide, 94″ long, with an additional 8″ fringe on each end. The stitched flower design runs approximately 35” of the total length.

This faja is woven with a deep black background with a teal blue stripe along each edge. There are spectacular birds with green leaves done with  free-hand machine embroidery that run down one side of the faja. The birds are detailed and beautiful! The previous owner put her initials on the back ‘MA’.

Additional photos can be found here.

This faja is in very good condition with a small amount of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads, and some slight wear on the tassels.
