Almolonga 377-0480

Very heavy and very large huipil with beautiful weaving and design! It is from Almolonga in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala. This expansive huipil measures 36″ across the shoulders, and 38″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2″ slit along one side making it easier to pull over the head. The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This huipil is striking with the classic woven design of the Almolonga region that features zigzag rivers in a golden-orange and white pattern with accents in purple and green throughout the bodice on both sides. The background fabric is a heavy, deep red woven cotton. The collar is accented in a lovely hand and machine embroidered flower circle and trimmed in a deep blue velveteen. The sleeves are trimmed in the same deep blue accent.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in excellent condition, with a few signs of wear. There is some slight color fading on the red base material. This spectacularly large huipil would be a stunning wall hanging! Please bear in mind the heavy weight of this huipil will affect the shipping cost.
