Classic Vintage Huipil from Chichicastenango! Traditional tapestry style with beautiful geometric design. Fantastic texture and color! Very stunning huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 35″ across the shoulders, 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/2″ in diameter, with tie-closed slits of 2″ on one side and 3″ on the other.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate embroidery that features multi-colored classic mayan diamond figures as well as feathered serpents throughout the body and shoulders in deep gold, red, blue, purple, green and many more colors. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun in cranberry colors accented with black velveteen. The background fabric is woven chocolate-brown cotton.
This huipil is in excellent used condition, with few flaws. There is some wear of the velveteen trim at the collar on the inside edge. This is very common, as the velveteen is usually the first part to wear on huipiles. The color throughout is very bright and even, with a very minor amount of fading only on the very bottom edge. (Much better than shown in the photo).
