Classic smaller Vintage Huipil from Chichicastenango! Traditional tapestry style with beautiful floral design. Fantastic texture and color! Very stunning woven huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This smaller huipil measures 27″ across the shoulders, 21 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 4 1/2″ in diameter, with a tab-closed slit of 2 1/2″.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate woven that features multi-colored classic flower design in pink, purple, blue, red, green and many more colors. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun in red and black. The background fabric is heavy-weight black cotton.
This huipil is in very good used condition with a few flaws, perhaps a few loose threads. There is a small amount of wear around the collar. The lower edges of the panels have a loose warp where the extra threads are woven back into the huipil (very common for huipiles from Chichicastenango). The snap at the collar tab has come unstitched and would need to be replaced. The background fabric is slightly faded.
