Classic vintage huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Traditional tapestry style with geomorphic designs and incredible colors. Fantastic texture and color! This is a very stunning  huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 32 1/2″ across the shoulders, 24 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/4″ in diameter with an additional 2″ tie-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head (note: very tight fit over avg head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic Mayan geomorphic design throughout the body and shoulders. The background fabric is woven black cotton.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in very good used condition for its age, with perhaps some loose threads and some wear along the sleeve openings, collar, and along the lower edge. The stitching where the panels are joined are loose in a couple of places. The neck opening had a snap closure, but at some point one side of the snap was replaced with a string tie. This is a beautiful vintage textile!
