Crisp cotton smaller huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Clean, elegant style with great designs. This is a lovely huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 28 1/4″ across the shoulders
21 1/2″ – 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded) – side panels are a bit longer than the center panel.
The neck opening is round and measures 4 3/4″ in diameter with an additional 2 1/4″ snap-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head (very tight fit over adult head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This three panel huipil is striking with simple weaving that features colorful woven zigzags and diamonds. The collar is accented with the classic radiating sun in red and black that is traditional for the region. The background fabric is woven white cotton.

This huipil is in very good used condition for its age, with perhaps a few loose threads and a couple of very small and faint stains. The lower edges of the panels have a lumpy warp where the extra threads are woven back into the huipil (very common for huipiles from Chichicastenango). This is a beautiful vintage textile!
