Vintage huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Traditional tapestry style with beautiful designs and incredible colors. Fantastic texture too! This is a very stunning  huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders, 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded).  The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/2″ in diameter with an additional 2″ snap-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head. The sides have been unstitched so that this huipil can be laid out open. The sides can easily be resewn to create armholes.

This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic flower design throughout the body and shoulders featuring roses and calla lilies. The neckline is decorated with the design of a radiating sun, traditional for the region. The background fabric is woven black cotton.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with perhaps a few loose threads. There is slight wear around the neck opening and gentle fading of the black background fabric due to age. This is a stunning textile!
