Slightly more modern huipil from the Chichicastenango region, with a different weaving design than the traditional tapestry style. Fantastic texture! This is a very stunning  huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 29 1/2″ across the shoulders, 28″ across the chest, 23″ – 25.5″ from shoulders to lower edge (panels are uneven).  The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/2″ in diameter with an additional 1 1/2″ snap-closed slit to aid in pulling over the head. The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This two panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic flower design throughout the body and shoulders. The neckline is decorated with the design of a radiating sun, traditional for the region. The background fabric is super soft woven black cotton.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with perhaps a few loose threads. This is a stunning textile!
