Chichicastenango
Classic Vintage Huipil from Chichicastenango! Traditional tapestry style with beautiful floral design. Fantastic texture and color! Very stunning embroidered huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter, with a snap-closed slit of 3 1/4″.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate embroidery that features multi-colored classic mayan diamond figures as well as double-headed eagles throughout the body and shoulders in deep gold, burgundy, grey-blue, brick-red, green and many more colors. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun in purple accented with black velveteen. The sleeves are also accented with black velveteen. The background fabric is black cotton.
This huipil is in excellent used condition, with few flaws. There is some wear of the velveteen trim at the collar as well as on the sleeves. This is very common, as the velveteen is usually the first part to wear on huipiles. Otherwise it is in great condition!
