Vintage lovely hand woven huipil, in unique colors! It is from Chuarrancho. This large and unique huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, and 27″ – 30″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The front is a bit longer than the back, thus the difference in lengths. The neck opening is round (oval) and measures 7 1/2″ in diameter. The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.

This huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout the blouse. It includes the classic shapes representing the mountains, rain, and rivers. The huipil has a rainbow of colors including the predominant purples, blues, greens, and pinks. The shoulders are woven with the traditional mayan stars that are mirrored on the underside of the huipil as well. The collar has a hand sewn trim account in purple cotton. The sleeves are accented with purple crochet trim. The woven background is interesting mix of colors in cotton. The background threads are a blend of light blue, burgundy, red, and brown. This is very unusual in a huipil of this region.

This huipil is in fairly good used condition for its age, with minimal sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. There is some wear along the edges where the sleeves were originally stitched. There are faint creases in the fabric where the huipil was gathered and sewn to make it smaller, but has since been opened to its full size. These are easily ironed out. This is a lovely vintage textile!
