605 Colotenango-0347Colotenango

Exquisite woven huipil from the area of Colotenango in the department of Huehuetenango. This striking huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, and 18″ – 20″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded) not including the fringe along the lower edge. One side is a bit longer than the other. The neck opening is rectangular and measures 5″ by 6 1/2″. The sides sides have been unstitched, but can easily be restitched creating armholes.

This three panel huipil is very beautiful and wonderfully soft, with a hand woven pattern throughout. It is decorated with classic designs of Colotenango with Mayan stars. The colors are a very deep burgundy/brown color with pastel accents on a striped background. The neckline and sleeves are accented in a simple stitching. Huipiles from Colotenango are known for their extreme softness due to the use of ‘hilo aleman’ or German thread that is much finer and more expensive than traditional threads.

This huipil is in great used condition, perhaps a few loose threads. Perfect for display or for wear!
