613 Huehuetenango-0426Colotenango

Wonderfully soft woven huipil from the area of Colotenango in the department of Huehuetenango. This lovely huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, and 21″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded) not including the fringe along the lower edge. One side is a bit longer than the other. The neck opening is rectangular and measures 4″ by 5 1/2″. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.

This three panel huipil is very beautiful and wonderfully soft, with a simple hand woven pattern throughout in the classic design of Colotenango. There is a simple striped trim around the collar. Huipiles from Colotenango are known for their extreme softness due to the use of ‘hilo aleman’ or German thread that is much finer and more expensive than traditional threads.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in great used condition, perhaps a few loose threads. Perfect for display or for wear!
