#715 Colotenango-1061Colotenango

Exquisite woven huipil from the area of Colotenango in the department of Huehuetenango. This striking huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, and 18″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures approximately 4 1/2″ along each of the four sides. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.

This three panel huipil is very beautiful and wonderfully soft, with a hand woven pattern throughout. It is decorated with classic designs of Colotenango with Mayan stars. The colors are a very deep brown color with pastel accents on a striped background. The neckline and sleeves are accented in a simple striped stitching. Huipiles from Colotenango are known for their extreme softness due to the use of ‘hilo aleman’ or German thread that is much finer and more expensive than traditional threads.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition, perhaps a few loose threads. There is a small hole/repair in the bodice on one side. Perfect for display or for wear!
