Unique blouse style huipil from the town of Joyabaj. This smaller modern huipil has had the sides taken in so that it more resembles a blouse. This huipil measures 36″ from sleeve tip to sleeve tip, 19″ across the chest (laid flat, under the armpits), and 20″ from the shoulder to the bottom edge. The neck opening is round and measures 6 3/4″ in diameter. It has a tiny slit of 1/2″ in both the front and back to allow more head room.

This modern style huipil is machine embroidered with the traditional Joyabaj circular design that radiates from the collar in a spectrum of colors. The round circles are accented with a tiny amount of gold thread in the center. The randa, or seam, in both the front and back are decorated with a basket of flowers with birds resting on top and a row of flowers that cascade down the front. The background fabric is a red woven cotton blend with tiny stripes of black and white.

This huipil is in very good used condition. Perhaps a few loose threads and some stretching of the fabric around the sleeves due to the ‘tailored’ fit.
