645 Nahuala-0562Nahualá

Wonderfully detailed huipil from the Nahualá region of Guatemala. This stunning huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, 22″ – 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The panels are not even.  The collar is an opening between the panels in both front and back and measures 10 1/4″ in length. (comfortable fit over average adult head). The sides have been stitched, creating arm holes for wearing.

This all cotton older huipil is striking with its detailed woven design with accents in purple, blue, gold, green and yellow. The pattern is geomorphic designs of large birds across the chest and back and horses running across the shoulders. The background fabric has the look of natural cacao fiber in a rich brown color without the coarse and scratchy texture. This is a very striking piece extremely representative of this region with a very unique design.

This beautiful huipil is in excellent used vintage condition with perhaps a few loose threads.  This is a fantastic textile perfect for wear or for display!
