438 Patzun-0182Patzún

Stuning ‘mayan calendar’ design huipil with beautiful weaving and striking embroidery! This large huipil is from Patzún in the Chimaltenango region of Guatemala. This lovely huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, and 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is generous and measures 7 1/4″ by 7 1/4″ square. The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This huipil is exquisite with a hand embroidered design radiating from the collar. The designs include flowers and various animal figures. The sleeves are capped with coordinating embroidery. The style is that of the mayan calendar, with blocks of flowers and feathers circling the neck opening in a rainbow of colors. It is more similar to the vintage ceremonial style huipiles instead of the more modern ones of all flowers.

The background fabric is an incredibly soft burgundy/red with bands colored stripes. This huipil is wonderfully soft to the touch and pleasing to the eye!

This huipil is in very good used condition, with a few loose threads. A truly lovely huipil!
