#751 Patzun-1678Patzún

Striking ‘mayan calendar’ design huipil with beautiful weaving and embroidery! It is from Patzún in the Chimaltenango region of Guatemala. This lovely huipil measures 30″ across the shoulders, 33″ across the lower edge, and 17 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6 1/4″ in diameter. The sides have been partially sewn to create armholes.

This huipil is exquisite with a hand embroidered design radiating from the collar. The style is that of the mayan calendar, with blocks of mayan figures and feathers circling the neck opening in a rainbow of soft pastel colors. There are feather accents at the sleeve openings and tiny flowers down the front and back where the two panels join. This huipil is more similar to the vintage ceremonial style huipiles instead of the more modern ones of all flowers.

The background fabric is a thick burgundy weaving with bands of colored stripes. The stripes have been left to hang at the ends creating a unique tiny fringe.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with a few loose threads in the embroidery design. A truly lovely huipil, perfect for wear or for display!
