Striking antique silk  huipil from Quetzaltenango/Xela region in Guatemala!  Fantastic texture and color! This huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, 29 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/2″ in diameter.

This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features traditional geomorphic animal shapes throughout the bodice in super soft silk threads of varying shades of burgundies, purples, reds, golds, and greens. Birds, mayan stars, and mountain ridges can be seen  in the design. The neckline is decorated with an added, embroidered collar adorned with colorful flowers and trimmed in black velvet. The background fabric is a silky soft fine cotton in a rich taupe color.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with a few flaws, perhaps a few loose threads. Due to the age of this antique huipil, there is some variation and fading in the color of the bodice below the design where some of the coloring has changed, but nothing to distract from the beauty of this vintage item.
