877 Quetzaltenango-4253Quetzaltenango

Wonderfully soft and beautiful huipil from the Quetzaltenango/Xela region in Guatemala. This huipil measures 35″ across the shoulders, 34″ across the chest, and 29.5″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5.75” in diameter with an additional 1.5″ slit to aid in pulling over the head. The sides have been partially stitched to create armholes.

The colors are a sea of rich raspberry purples and pinks with lovely black and white ikat stripes. The collar is trimmed with machine embroidery of flowers in purple and pink. The same embroidery cascades from the shoulders where the panels join. The collar is trimmed with black vevet-like accent. The background fabric is a nubby, raw white cotton.

This huipil is in very good used condition. There are a few loose threads and some wear around the neck opening. A spectacular textile!
