Huipil from San Antonio Aguas Calientes #109
Posted by Ixchel in HUIPILES, San Antonio Aguas Calientes, SOLDSweet young girl’s huipil made in the style of the San Antonio Aguas Calientes area of Guatemala. This small huipil measures 20″ across the shoulders, and 13 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is scallop shaped, and measures 5 1/2” wide by 51/2” long.
*This huipil was actually made in the neighboring town of Santa Maria de Jesús with the design style of San Antonio Aguas Calientes; as can be seen in the beautiful loros (parrots) and birds across the shoulders and in the center on both sides.
The colors are predominantly green, blue, orange, red, and yellow. The design is hand embroidered on a heavy black woven cotton base. The sides have been stitched together to create the sleeve openings.
This huipil is in very good used condition. There is some slight wear in the form of a few loose threads and fading/discoloration of the cotton trim used on the inside of the collar (not seen from the outside) and the trim on the bottom edge of one side.
