Huipil from San Antonio Aguas Calientes #128
Posted by Ixchel in HUIPILES, San Antonio Aguas Calientes, SOLDSan Antonio Aguas Calientes*
Very lovely huipil made in the style of the San Antonio Aguas Calientes area of Guatemala. This huipil measures 28″ across the shoulders, and 29″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round, and measures 6 1/2” in diameter. The shoulders are gathered and stitched, but the stitching can be removed to extend the huipil to its full size, thus increasing the width throughout.
*This huipil was actually made in the neighboring town of Santa Maria de Jesús with the classic design of San Antonio Aguas Calientes; as can be seen in the beautiful loros (parrots) and birds across the shoulders and in the center on both sides.
The colors are a full spectrum of green, blue, orange, red, yellow and much more. The design is woven on a heavy black cotton base. There is an extra 7” section of soft black commercial cotton sewn on the bottom edge to extend the length of this huipil. The collar and sleeves are trimmed in black crochet.
This huipil is in very good used condition. There is some slight wear in the form of a few loose threads.
