Huipil from San Antonio Aguas Calientes #143
Posted by Ixchel in HUIPILES, San Antonio Aguas Calientes, SOLDElegant huipil made in the style of the San Antonio Aguas Calientes area of Guatemala. This huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, and 21″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is rectangular, and measures 5” by 4” with an additional 2 ½” slit along the shoulder that closes with a small zipper.
*This huipil was actually made in the neighboring town of Santa Maria de Jesús with the classic design of San Antonio Aguas Calientes; as can be seen in the varying rows for zigzag mountains and triangular rivers as well as mayan stars. The bird design at the shoulders and the row of couples seated with pears and strawberries are done in the very fine and detailed San Antonio weaving style where the design is identical both inside and out.
The colors are a full spectrum of green, blue, orange, red, yellow and much more. The design is woven on a burgundy woven cotton base.
This huipil is in very good used condition. There is some slight wear in the form of a few loose threads.
