San Antonio Aguas Calientes

Exquisite huipil made in the town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes. This area is known for its incredibly detailed weaving that is frequently copied in other nearby towns. This beautiful huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, and 24 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round, and measures 6″ in diameter.

This spectacular huipil has the traditional rows of zigzag mountains, triangular patterns of the rivers, yellow corn plants (symbols) and mayan stars. This huipil is finely woven, but uniquely enough, does not have the ‘doble cara’ San Antonio weaving style where the pattern can be seen both inside and out. But instead is fully woven only on the outer surface. To look at the underneath, you can only see the burgundy background fabric. The weaving is incredibly fine, causing this huipil to be wonderfully soft to the touch. It have been woven with arti-seda thread that gives it a lovely shimmer.

The colors are a full spectrum of green, blue, orange, red, yellow and much more. The design is woven on a deep burgundy woven cotton base. The collar and sleeves are trimmed in a teal green velvet.

This huipil is in very good used condition. There may be some slight wear in the form of a few loose threads. The velvet at the collar on the center seams has a small spot of wear.
