539 San Antonio Aguas Calientes-SMdJ-0302San Antonio Aguas Calientes*

Colorful and detailed smaller huipil made in the style of the San Antonio Aguas Calientes area of Guatemala. This young girl’s huipil measures 22 1/2″ across the shoulders, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and each of the four sides measures 4 1/2”.

*This huipil was actually made in the neighboring town of Santa Maria de Jesús with the classic design of San Antonio Aguas Calientes; as can be seen in the varying rows for zigzag mountains and triangular rivers as well as mayan stars. Couples can be seen sitting in the colorful gardens with birds seated on branches above. The colors are a full spectrum of green, blue, orange, red, yellow and much more. The design is woven on a burgundy red cotton base. There is an extra strip of cotton blend fabric added along the bottom to extend the length.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition. There is some slight wear in the form of a some loose threads and loosening of the weaving throughout the bodice. The lower lavender section has a few small stains/discolorations. These smaller vintage huipiles make great wall hangings!
